Discussion: focusing on how non-English speaking students are often discriminated
against and excluded from what is supposed to be an inclusive, welcoming environment
(i.e. specifically classrooms). Their language barrier and lack of empathy from other
students to help learn and communicate with each other is a significant issue. This
treatment can occur in such early age groups, sticking with children and teens as they
grow and form their own self esteem and judgment of themselves. Using the prejudice
they receive causes them to believe those opinions, which often affects mental health and
anxiety in large groups.
