Sociolinguistic Perspectives in Education Episode 55
Hi, welcome to our podcast! Our podcast is going to cover some basic things we enjoyed about this course and I hope you enjoy.
My name is Kamoya and my name is Itzel.
The first question we had today is what is our favorite part of this course?
My favorite part was learning all the differnt linguistic ideologies that I was not really aware of, but now with all of the research and readings it was eye opening to see whats really going on.
Okay. My favorite part of the course was when we had the opportunity to sit and talk with the Freeport kids, and how our kid, who was Junior was very understanding and fun to talk to.
I agree he was very engaging.
He would always start some of the questions.
My question is how has all this information helped you become more aware?
Um. all this information made me become more aware because we never knew how many people were having problems communicating with others and how they felt an open space about when they had to speak up. Sometimes its because of their accent, how they were raised, and now Ive become really aware and how to be more patient with others when talking.
I agree it gave us new insights and how to see the other students and teachers how they handle things.
My other question is what did you learn from this course?
I learned the different idiomatic all of that was really interesting.
I also agree about that, I didnt know that people have those in their culture, ethicity and stuff but when I actually listened to them I was able to pinpoint what they were talking about, it was easier to understand.
I agree, another question of mine was what has been the greatest challenge throughout this course.
My greatest challenge was doing the journals, they were fun, but I never had a class where I had to sit and record myself with my camera on. I dont remember if that was a requirement to turn my camera on but that was a challenge. But I enjoyed it, it was fun.
Yeah, I didnt turn on my camera either cause I was shy. But I think the greatest challenge is how this information was all asynchronous and not in-person so we couldnt connect well with each other and to contact each other to get everything set.
She put in and provided everything to us like the emails and stuff but we had to put our foot forward to reach out.
Yeah, it was hard.
My last and final question is would you recommend this course to anyone?
I would because I feel like its not like the other courses that are like oh you have this test due, oh you have to use this math formula. Because this course is something you will use in the real world.
I would definitely recommend this course too because its an easy class. The professor is so patient with us and everything is done step by step and its fun.
My other question is how will you use what you learned in this class in the future?
I would use what I learned to educate other people and give them details on the categories of linguistics and educate others.
Yeah, we were talking how you wanted to be, your in the nursing major, and that will help you grow in your career.
Yeah, like having conversations with other people who are not educated on this from college.
So I would use this in the future because I want to be an elementary school teacher or mental health counselor so I can take what I learned from this course and incorporate it into my classroom. I really liked when we did that discussion post on how we would create our classroom and make it more incorporating everyones backgrounds and it really got me thinking how I can make all of my students feel welcome and incorporate all of their beliefs and things like that.
Yeah and everything you just have to be patient and understanding of others.
And thats it guys bye, hope you enjoyed our podcast.
